Network International, Saudi Sudanese Bank boost digital banking

Digital commerce firm Network International has signed a processing agreement with Saudi Sudanese Bank in Sudan to provide a full suite of end-to-end digital payment processing services. 

Network International will also provide the bank with Mastercard sponsorship, prepaid issuing and a range of value-added services designed to support the bank’s digital ambitions.

According to Network International, the Saudi Sudanese Bank has created a strong foundation for cross-border economic activity. 

The digital commerce firm added that building on the bank’s progress, it will deploy advanced fintech solutions to modernize the financial ecosystem, improve trade‑settlement efficiency and expand investment opportunities.

“Our partnership with Saudi Sudanese Bank represents an important step in advancing Sudan’s digital payments infrastructure,” said Network International’s Africa processing group managing director, Dr. Reda Helal.

Helal added that with the company bringing its advanced solutions to the Saudi Sudanese Bank, it is not only supporting the bank’s strategy, the fintech is helping shape the future of payments in Sudan.

“Partnering with Network International is a major step in our journey to modernize Sudan’s banking landscape,” explained Saudi Sudanese Bank CEO Osama Ali Ibrahim.

Ibrahim added that Network International’s expertise and comprehensive digital payments platform will allow the bank to introduce faster, safer and more accessible financial products to its customers.

The modernization of African payments

Network International has recently collaborated with various African companies to digitize and modernize payments.

In September 2025, the company and the National Union Bank entered into a partnership aimed at modernizing Libya’s banking sector as well as expanding access to secure, innovative financial services. 

In July 2025, Network International partnered with Ghanaian fintech and mobile money aggregator Blu Penguin to provide mobile money transactions via Network’s N-Genius payment terminals in Ghana.

Fintech has become a key focus area for banks and other companies on the African continent.  

In August 2025, Airtel Money Africa partnered with Africa’s largest mobile money payment service provider (PSP) pawaPay to enable cross-border payments for licensed international money transfer operators (IMTOs) across seven Airtel Africa markets.

Also in August 2025, OpenWay, a global digital payment software solutions provider, expanded its operations into Francophone Africa, enabling payment technology for banks and fintechs.

In July 2025, Western Union, Zoona and Chipper Cash launched international money transfer services in Zambia via the Chipper Cash app.

That same month Orange Money Group and JUMO launched small-scale loans.

July 2025 also saw Safaricom Ethiopia’s M-Pesa and Awash Bank launching a digital overdraft service enabling M-Pesa users to make transactions even when their money wallet balance is low.
